Tuesdays feel like Saturday nights
hi. welcome to the bell lap. i'm pretty sure many of you understand what's going on here- a slice of the final track season of my life. i figure it's about time to start something else and i guess a chronicle my season is, for the moment, something else. plus if all goes well in the "chronicle" department, it might be a little entertaining for everyone. let's get started:
in case you are wondering, tuesdays really DO feel like saturday nights. late saturday night. most of saturday night i'm bathed in nausea after a race only to be saved by a positive reflection on the events of the day, king sized twix, and the potent combination of that aforementioned reflection, those that train with me, and beer. it's in that post-nausea moment that running is not stressful and not strenuous. i'm not worrying about the next day (easy workout wednesday/light run sunday) and i am unwrapped from the tension of most everything else. apparently i put a fair amount of stress on myself before a race.
this week the race is in seattle at the UW indoor facility. indoor tracks are hard to come by on the west coast (i believe there are 3 in washington, 2 in idaho, 0 in california, 1 in oregon). still, the UW benefits from their football team needing an opportunity to escape the harsh pacific northwest winters and it just so happens a nearly 300 meter track fits right in their practice "stadium". hey, i'm not complaining- it's great.
i've raced at this facility a few times before. most recently 2 weeks ago http://gohuskies.collegesports.com/sports/c-track/stats/2004-2005/uwinviteday2.html in which i saw my indoor mile personal record (PR) drop from 4:17ish to 4:10.15. i've run 4:09.34 outdoors and was pleased with my efforts even though it was much slower than i wanted. i also ran 2000 meters (2000m) of the 3000m race and felt better doing that than the mile. so if i hadn't found myself with the flu last week i'd figure i have a VERY good shot at meeting one of my season goals: run under 8:00 for 3000m. that converts to about 8:35 for 2 miles. now i just feel confident.
let's see how i feel on wednesday...
